For the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, Abdul Rehman, the veteran domestic coach, has been named interim head coach. Najam Sethi, the PCB chair, announced on Tuesday that former pacer Umar Gul would serve as bowling coach for the series.
It has been clarified by the PCB that it was an error on their part to announce Mohammad Yousuf as interim head coach.
As of December last year, Pakistan have been without a head coach since Saqlain Mushtaq’s contract expired. During Sethi’s previous tenure as PCB chairman, Mickey Arthur served as the head coach. As a result of his commitment to English County Derbyshire, he was unable to work full-time for Pakistan’s men’s team. However, the PCB has yet to clarify the exact nature of his role.
The Pakistan team will be without several top players for the Afghanistan series, which begins on March 24 in Sharjah. Cliffe Deacon and Drikus Saaiman have retained their contracts as physiotherapist and strength and conditioning coach, respectively.
