Cricket board of West Indies (CWI) recently announced that 14 Member squad for the Windies team for the upcoming Tri series competition against Ireland and Bangladesh Team. Jason Holder continue to Leading the Windies team who have without their Nine regular players which are currently playing in India domestic cricket of Indian Premier League. Gabriel and Carter has been included in the Line up while Dowrich get Maiden ODI call up for this tri series.
Windies star players Likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Shimron Hetmyer, Oshane Thomas, Nicholas Pooran, Narine, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph and Sherfane Rutherford are currently feature in the IPL from the various franchise. IPL will be conclude on 12th May while Tri series is set to begin from the 5th May and played till 17 May so this is the last ODI Matches for the windies ahead of the Cricket world cup 2019 which begin from the 30 May.
CWI Director also mentioned that This is Not a world cup squad of windies. “They have selected a squad to Ireland that allows a slightly wider pool of players to get 50-over experience in UK conditions which I think is very important. This is not the World Cup squad, as a number of players are not available for this series as they are still participating in the IPL,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Robert Haynes chairman of selector mentioned that this team is picked on the basis of players fitness and their availability. “We are immediately implementing the new policy of having the best West Indies team selected based on availability, form and fitness. The pace attack of Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach and Jason Holder will only serve to enhance the performances we expect from the team,” Haynes added.
